Buy, Sell, Hold in 2024 Dynasty Fantasy Football (Sophomore Edition)

Not every rookie year is going to be indicative of how an NFL career plans out. We have seen numerous players bounce back after having a rough year, and we have also seen players fall off after having a strong rookie campaign. Let's take a look at some players you should either be buying or selling.

 

Zach Charbonnet - Sell

Seattle Seahawks (RB)

 

462 Rushing yards, One Touchdown, 209 Receiving yards

 

Zach Charbonnet, being drafted by the Seahawks, felt questionable. The Seahawks already have Kenneth Walker, who is already a great running back. Rumors in the preseason questioned whether or not Charbonnet would cut into Walker's workload. Although Charbonnet received some opportunities, seldom production resulted from them.

 

Charbonnet achieved double-digit carries three times in three straight games and converted them into 48 carries, 154 yards, and one touchdown. Overall, the Seattle backfield fell short of expectations, especially after Walker had been injured during the games. This backfield with Walker makes Charbonnet an expensive handcuff.

 

 

C.J Stroud - Hold

Houston Texans (QB)

 

Rookie Year Stats: 15 Games Played, 4,108 Yards, 23 TDs, Five INT

 

There's not much higher C.J. Stroud can climb after the Texans just traded for Stefon Diggs. As the reigning Rookie of the Year, Stroud proved to us to be a legitimate player not only by winning the highest rookie honors but also by having himself in MVP conversations before his injury. Stroud started 15 games and had the Houston Texans looking like one of the most exciting teams in the league. In those 15 starts, Stroud threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.

 

Stroud achieved that milestone with a 63.9% completion rate and also ran for three touchdowns. Stroud’s 273.9 passing yards per game led the league as being the first rookie to do so in 84 years. Now Stroud's situation only gets better pairing Diggs with Nico Collins and Tank Dell. At only 22 years old, Stroud is only going to get even better and I would be looking to build around him.

 

Jahmyr Gibbs - Buy

Detroit Lions (RB)

 

945 Rushing yards, 316 Receiving yards, 11 Total Touchdowns

 

Finishing fourth in voting for Rookie of the Year, Jahmyr Gibbs showed exactly why Dan Campbell was jumping for joy when he drafted him. Gibbs has a unique burst of speed and agility that you look for in a running back. He can catch passes out of the backfield and turn them into big gains. If you let him get in the open field, then good luck! 

 

Splitting carries with David Montgomery exemplified the knock people had right away when it came to Gibbs, but it could have very well been exactly what the rookie needed to keep him healthy and productive all year. Gibbs was a pivotal part of the Lions offense, and combined with Montgomery, the backfield was one of the best in the entire league. I am buying Gibbs since he will only get better while Montgomery possibly could regress.

 

Jaxson Smith-Njigba - Hold

Seattle Seahawks (WR)

 

63 Catches, 628 Receiving yards, Four Touchdowns 

 

Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the first receiver taken in the NFL Draft but wasn't in a position to have a breakout rookie season. During the final weeks of training camp, Smith-Njigba broke his wrist and was a part-time player for the early phase of the season.

 

However, Smith-Njigba demonstrated flashes of who he could be in the NFL. Geno Smith is slowly reverting back to being a mediocre quarterback, which is rough for Smith-Njigba. Tyler Lockett recently resigned with the Seahawks, and DK Metcalf remains on the roster as well.

 

These are the factors that make it hard to buy Smith-Njigba. A new coach in Seattle might revive life in the team by centering Smith-Njigba as the focal point for more touches, but for now, he remains in the currently underachieving Seattle offense. Hold Smith-Njigba if you have him, but if a good offer is on the table, don’t be afraid to consider it.

 

 

Jordan Addison - Buy

Minnesota Vikings (WR)

 

70 Catches, 911 Receiving yards, 10 Touchdowns

 

Jordan Addison was drafted by the Vikings as the 23rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Immediately, Addison displayed his explosiveness and big play ability as he recorded four catches for 61 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Buccaneers. The rookie was able to play in all 17 games for the Vikings and finished top five in receiving touchdowns (number one among all rookies in the league). 

 

Kirk Cousins is now out of Minnesota, and that solemnly will not be the worst scenario for Addison. Cousins was quite locked in on Justin Jefferson, but a new face throwing the ball will allow Addison to build some fresh rapport and make his presence felt. Buy Jordan Addison, even if the quarterback for the Vikings isn't looking great.
