Garrett Wilson Career Recap

Coming into the 2023 season, Garrett Wilson was being touted as an elite dynasty receiver, according to Keep Trade Cut. Wilson peaked at WR3 near the end of August, right around the time of NFL kickoff.

To be fair, this hype train was warranted because, as a rookie, Wilson crushed without Zach Wilson, averaging 17.1 PPG. Although it was a small sample size of three games, this wasn’t a fluke, considering that Wilson was an elite prospect coming out of Ohio State. Aaron Rodgers is obviously a significant quarterback upgrade, prompting the insane hype.

We all know how the story ended with Rodgers causing Wilson to only score 13.2 PPG in 2023. The Jets offense was abysmal efficiency-wise, but Wilson drew an absurd league-leading 153 targets (Through week 16). Volume is king, proving that Wilson can get open and draw targets even if he hasn’t been able to turn them into elite fantasy numbers yet.

Current Dynasty Value

Right now, Wilson is being valued as the WR6 on KTC, and I fully expect him to climb up to the WR 3-4 range. I would still rather have Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, and CeeDee Lamb over Wilson, but that’s it. In reality, Wilson is such a lock to increase in value because we saw him rise in the same situation last season. All that’s changed is that Wilson and Rodgers are one year older, which doesn’t impact much.

If you have questions about Rodgers returning, let’s think about what he’s done this year. Rodgers has constantly gone on the Pat McAfee show to draw attention about “coming back” in record time from his injury. Although Rodgers is a great football player, he’s very selfish, and there’s no way he’ll retire without trying to prove his haters wrong. On top of this, according to a report from Sports Illustrated, “Aaron Rodgers is preparing to run it back with the New York Jets in 2024.”

Now, you may not think that the difference between the WR 3-4 and WR6 6-7 is a big deal, but that’s where you’re wrong. Wilson is comparable to Lamb because they’re both excellent prospects who have increased their production every year in the NFL. Speaking more so from experience, but if you wanted to buy Lamb last season, there was still a chance you could get it done without overpaying.

If you want to get Lamb, he’s being drafted with an ADP of 7 on KTC, which is ridiculously high. Wilson, in comparison, is being drafted with an ADP of 18, which is much more reasonable. If you want Wilson on your dynasty team, this off-season is your last chance.
