10 Must Buy and Sell Trade Targets Before Week 6 (2024 & 2025 Fantasy Basketball)

With four and a half weeks of basketball in the books, here are some players who are worth buying low and selling high, given a lot of players have over and under-performed compared to their actual value. Now is a great time to take advantage of desperate managers who are looking for a quick early season win rather than valuing their long term assets.

Buy Low

Tyrese Maxey

(Philadelphia 76ers G)

Tyrese Maxey hasn’t been the greatest since returning to the 76ers lineup, as he’s put up 17 PPG, 3.5 APG, and 2.5 SPG on 46/25/100 shooting splits (over the last two games). Maxey is coming off a fantastic year as he averaged 25.9 PPG, 6.2 APG, and 1 SPG on 45/37/87 splits. With Joel Embiid and Paul George in and out of the lineup, Tyrese should have a lot of long-term value, considering Philly will be pushing to make the playoffs.

Scottie Barnes

(Toronto Raptors F)

Scottie Barnes recently returned to the Raptors after missing eleven games. He had a decent showing in their most recent game as he went for 17 PTS and 6 AST on 5/11, shooting in only 27 minutes. Barnes’ PPG, RPG, APG, BPG, and shooting percentages are all down from last season due to his slow start. Look for Toronto to ramp up Barnes’ production in their upcoming contests as he gets reacclimated to NBA action. The young wing is coming off a great season as he averaged 19.9 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 6.1 AST, 1.5 BLK, and 1.3 STL on 47/34/78 splits in the 2023-24 campaign, making him a solid buy-low option.

Kyle Kuzma

(Washington Wizards F)

Kyle Kuzma hasn’t had the greatest start to this season, as he’s averaging 17.4 PPG and 6.3 RPG on 42% shooting and 29% from deep through nine games. The improved depth of Washington has led to a slightly lower workload for Kyle, but he has shown that he’s capable of playing much better as he went for 22.2 PPG and 6.6 RPG on 46% FG% and 33% 3PT% in the 2023-24 season. Kuzma is worth buying while his value is pretty low.

Austin Reaves

(Los Angeles Lakers G)

Austin Reaves has had a tough stretch of games as he’s gone for 14.6 PPG and 5.4 APG on 34% from the field and 35% from beyond the arc (over the last five games). The volume is still there for Austin as his FGA and usage rate are up to begin the 2024-25 season. Reaves is bound to improve his fantasy value, as he was able to shoot 48% from the field last year. A little positive regression for Reaves’ shooting will lead to him improving in the coming weeks.

Trae Young

(Atlanta Hawks G)

Trae Young has struggled to begin the year as he’s gone for 22.1 PPG, 11.7 APG, and 1.4 SPG on 38/33/90 shooting splits. Trae has shown he can be more consistent, as he went for 25.7 PPG, 10.8 APG, and 1.3 SPG on 43/37/85 splits last season. Young’s shooting volume is surprisingly down despite the departure of Dejounte Murray, but he’s averaging a career-high in assists to make up for the one less FGA. Assuming Trae has some positive shooting regression, he’s bound to increase his value down the line.

Sell High

De’Aaron Fox

(Sacramento Kings G)

De’Aaron Fox has been an absolute stud over his last seven games. With six of these games being without Domantas Sabonis and DeMar DeRozan, Fox has averaged 34.3 PPG, 7.3 APG, 5.9 RPG, and 1.4 SPG on 53% FG% and 40% 3PT%, showcasing his ability to provide top 10 fantasy value. With both Sabonis and DeRozan back, now is the great time to sell Fox at a premium.

RJ Barrett

(Toronto Raptors G/F)

RJ Barrett has been red hot as he has put up 31.7 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 7.7 APG, and 1.3 SPG on 53% from the field and 41% from deep (over the last three games). Barrett has stepped up with the Raptors, who are dealing with a number of injuries. RJ has improved his usage rate by 4% and his shot attempts by four attempts, which has led to his spike in fantasy relevance this season. With Scottie Barnes coming back in the last game and Immanuel Quickley potentially returning soon, Barrett’s value is bound to drop over the next few weeks.

Brook Lopez

(Milwaukee Bucks C)

Brook Lopez is coming off a three game stretch where he averaged 19.7 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 2.3 SPG, and 2 BPG on 68% from the field and 50% from 3PT range. Lopez will continue being an elite rim protector, but the recent scoring outburst is unsustainable long term, given he’s only averaged over 13 PPG once in his seven seasons with Milwaukee. It’s worth selling Brook now, especially with Khris Middleton rumored to potentially return to the Bucks next week.

Jamal Murray

(Denver Nuggets G)

With Nikola Jokic missing three out of the last four games, Jamal Murray took full advantage as he went for 17.5 PPG, 8 APG, 5.3 RPG, 2 SPG, and 1.7 BPG on 39/34/85 shooting splits. Jamal hasn’t had the greatest shooting year, but the increased usage allowed him to have a great stretch of games. While Murray’s shooting percentages should improve, his on-ball volume will be lower once Jokic returns, which will most likely limit his fantasy appeal, making him a solid sell-high option.
