Caleb Williams is Destined for Greatness: Dynasty Fantasy Football Scouting Report and Film Breakdown (2024 NFL Draft)

After Caleb Williams took over the college football world throughout his career at both Oklahoma and USC, he has rightfully emerged as one of the most exciting quarterback prospects in recent memory. While I don’t think he is on the level of a generational QB prospect like Trevor Lawrence or even Brock Bowers and Marvin Harrison Jr. in his own class relative to position, Williams has earned the title of QB1 in the 2024 draft class. Now, this is no shot at North Carolina’s Drake Maye, but Williams's blend of talent and play style draws comparisons to dynamic NFL quarterback Kyler Murray, setting him apart as a unique and electrifying prospect.

Key Attributes and Play Style

Caleb Williams boasts exceptional arm talent. Williams's ability to unleash precise throws with incredible velocity is nothing short of 
incredible. Williams demonstrates a knack for delivering pinpoint passes at all levels of the field, which immediately stood out on his tape. Williams is an elite processor. Williams's ability to read the field and place the ball with precision, even on difficult throws downfield, highlights his exceptional talent as a passer.


Williams also brings a dynamic element on the ground to his game, similar to Murray;s elusive style. Williams's agility and speed allow him to extend plays and evade defenders with ease, showcasing his ability to make something out of nothing when the pocket collapses, and while he can be reckless on the ground, he is tough and smart.


Williams is super nimble in the pocket and demonstrates an elite ability to react to multiple rushers. He has a great feel for space when he is in the pocket; it almost looks like he sees everyone in slow motion.

Film Breakdown

While Williams possesses a wide array of strengths, there are areas for improvement. I don’t believe Williams's is the most anticipatory thrower in the world, but I also think that with his outrageous traits, he doesn’t have to be. On Williams's tape, he doesn’t try as many tight window throws as you would like. Williams shows promise in this aspect but could benefit from being more risk-tolerant in this area. 

Ironically, he needs to be risk-averse in almost every other area in his game. Williams's holds the ball too long, which is crucial for him to work on. Williams was forced to play hero ball for the entirety of the 2023 season at USC, so I think it is unfair to say that he has a true problem bailing out of clean pockets and making poor decisions, but it's something to work on as he (hopefully) gets a better-supporting cast at the next level. Similarly, Williams's footwork is inconsistent; he doesn’t do a good job syncing up his top half with his lower half and often throws off his back foot.

Conclusion

Williams's emerges as a top-tier quarterback prospect with the raw tools and potential to become a franchise cornerstone in the NFL, but also has the accuracy, mobility, and ability to play in structure to succeed from day one. Williams embodies the traits of a modern-day quarterback capable of thriving in today's pass-heavy league.


While there are areas for growth and refinement, Williams's combination of floor and ceiling is undeniable. Much like Murray, Williams's possesses the ability to elevate his team and become a transcendent talent at the next level. As he continues to develop and hone his skills, the sky is truly the limit for Williams.
