Taylor Ward
One year ago Taylor Ward was being looked at as a top 20 outfielder in some circles. Ward had some unfortnate struggles to begin 2023 and then had multiple injuries that turned his season into a pumpkin instead of a glass slipper. Ward is my ultimate bounce back target this year. Ward has a history of scoring a ton of runs hitting the ball hard and stealing enough bags to make him a very valuable outfielder. Even in 2023 Ward's statcast page was solid but a peek back at 2022 shows why there was so much hype. Ward is just a good ball player and if he can stay healthy could be the steal of the draft.
Leody Tavares
Leody Tavares is only 25 but will be going into his 5th season in the big leagues. Tavares has struggled a bit with staying on the field and with strike outs in the past which has limited his upside but last year he took a big step forward with the bat and dropped his strikeout rate to 21.1% which is actually impressive compared to his 32% rate in his first two seasons. Tavares's speed has never been in question and this past season his power showed up as well as he demonstrated a solid hard hit rate. Tavares is one of my favorites for a 20/20 season and at an ADP of 285 and the 55th outfielder off the board this is a huge value.
Will Benson
Will Benson shows some impressive tools with a good speed and power combination. There is a good chance that Benson will never be more than a platoon bat but as the strong side platoon playing his home games in Great American Ballpark he may be able to get close to a 20/20 season. He had a 20.5% hard hit rate last season and an elite 19.5% whiff rate with high walks. Personally my hope is that Benson is traded and can play full time but in daily leagues where he can be played against righties he will be a value where he is being drafted.
Johan Rojas
Sure Johan Rojas had an awful postseason. Sure you can point at that and say the man is not a good hitter, however Rojas did bat over 300 in the regular season and is one season removed from a 62 steal season. If the Phillies had missed the postseason he may have been getting drafted high in drafts as a rabbit like Estuary Ruiz was last year. Reports from the offseason are that Rojas was the most dedicated Phillies bat over the offseason and I think Rojas has it in him to sport a decent average, high steals and a handful of homers that will make him valueable as a fantasy player this late in your draft.
Colton Cowser
Colton Cowser is a true post hype prospect. Cowser reached as high as the top 15. He struggled in his time in the majors but still showed the skills that made him a high prospect. Cowser has good plate discipline, good speed and some pop. Cowser will never hit 40 homers or steal 40 bags but he will produce good runs, RBI and solid homers and steals. The biggest negative for Cowser right now is how crowded the Orioles outfield is right now. If he can manage to make the opening day roster I think he will get enough at bats to provide good fantasy value in a bounce back season.
