Kansas City Chiefs 2024 NFL Draft Grade

It’s hard to not feel queasy about what the Kansas City Chiefs did in this year's draft if you are not a fan, grabbing the most explosive weapon in the class for Pat Mahomes, as well as making great pick after great pick in the later rounds of the draft could have the reigning champs poised to add another ring.

 

Round 1: Xavier Worthy, WR - Grade: C+

 

I was not a fan of Xavier Worthy. I thought his hands and ball tracking were very poor, and while I acknowledged his upside, I wouldn’t bet on him succeeding in the NFL. Then he went to the Chiefs, the absolute best landing spot imaginable for him. This definitely made me a bit uneasy as someone who was extremely vocal about my dislike for Worthy during the draft process. While this could turn out to be extremely wrong, I’ll stay true to my evaluation that Xavier Worthy was one of the most overrated prospects in this draft cycle.

 

 

Round 2: Kingsley Suamataia, OT - Grade: B+

 

Kingsley Suamataia is a fun pick for the Chiefs. He absolutely jumped off the page with his great traits and had serviceable film to boot. I had a third-round grade on him, but with the value of the position and the current state of the Chiefs, I think this pick makes a lot of sense. He doesn’t have to play day 1, and I don’t think he will, but a swing on a very high-upside player at a premium position here.

 

Round 4: Jared Wiley, TE - Grade: A-

 

Jared Wiley makes a lot of sense in the Chiefs’ offense. He’s the type of quasi-big slot, Travis Kelce-esque tight end that really plays kind of like a receiver. Wiley is fast, runs good routes, has good hands, and has plenty of upside as a potential option post-Kelce.

 

Round 4: Jaden Hicks, S - Grade: A+

 

Jaden Hicks was a guy I loved and getting him in the 4th round is great value. A true old-school hard-nosed, hard-hitting safety. Not much of a cover player, but I think you have a starter at strong safety here if not Day 1, then sometime in the near future.

 

Round 5: Hunter Nourzad, OL - Grade: A

 

Hunter Nourzad is another guy that I think is a starting-caliber player that the Chiefs stole on Day 3. He didn’t crack the top 10 offensive linemen for me, but he’s someone I was high on. I think he could be another guy who starts on the Chiefs' offensive line a year or two down the line and has true three-position flexibility.

 

 

Round 6: Kamal Hadden, CB - Grade: B

 

Kamal Hadden, I didn’t love, but in the 6th round, I’m fine with it. He’s a really sound zone corner but gets beat deep far too often in man coverage.

 

Final Grade: B+
